If you are not familiar with Lordstown Motors, you should know it is an EV startup focused on building pickup trucks (at least for now). So far, the automaker has introduced just one EV pickup, named Endurance, and the production has been delayed for a long time for various reasons.
The good news is the company has started producing the full-size Endurance EV pickup truck and completed two units at its Ohio plant. In the first phase, the automaker plans to develop 500 vehicles and deliver them to customers.
The start still isn’t ideal, the company said, “supply chain constraints; engineering readiness, quality, and part availability will continue to govern the speed of launch.” Lordstown Motors CEO Edward Hightower stated, “We will continue to build at a slow rate as we address remaining part pedigree and part availability issues. We expect to increase the speed of production into November and December,” and that “(Lordstown Motors) homologation and certification processes are proceeding as planned.”
The brand has once again given faith to investors, booking holders, and keen groups that their EV plans didn’t change. The company is doing everything as planned, such as crash testing the truck and meeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). With FMVSS certification, complete American-market homologation will be possible.
The EV truck has already been chosen as the North American Truck Of the Year semi-finalist, which implies the Endurance will be pitted against other electric trucks to find out which one is the best.
It is huge progress for the startup caught up in disagreement and development problems. Since the Endurance is ready to hit the roads and the dealerships, now we can say Lordstown Motors exists. However, the startup has to face tough competition with Rivian, General Motors, Ford, and Tesla (the Cybertruck is still in development, though).
