The German automaker has introduced the 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e PHEV boasting more power and almost double EV-only range compared to the outgoing xDrive40e. The power comes from a turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine assisted by an electric motor to create a combined output of 389 hp (290 kW) and 600 Newton-meters (443 pound-feet) of torque. The power is delivered to all the wheels via an eight-speed Sport Steptronic transmission.

Talking about the individual power of both the power units, the gasoline engine generates 282 hp, while the electric motor that is assisted by a 24-kWh battery yields 111 hp. On pure electric mode, the SUV can travel 48 km (30 miles), and attain a top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph). When using power from both units, the 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e PHEV can hit 96 km/h in 5.3 seconds and max out at 209 km/h (130 mph). The current xDrive40e uses a 2.0L engine with a smaller battery pack to deliver 24 km (15 miles) EV range.

There are three drive modes – Hybrid, Electric, and Sport, and a range of standard features. These comprise of a rearview camera, panoramic sunroof, power-heated front seats, adaptive LED headlights, Live Cockpit Professional, and the latest BMW iDrive system. Besides BMW’s standard navigation system, it also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The safety is ensured through blind-spot monitors, land departure warning, front and rear collision warning, and cross-traffic alert.

The 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e PHEV will hit the U.S. dealership next month. The price will start at $65,400 (excluding $995 destination charges). We do not know yet when it will reach in the Middle East. Stay tuned for updates!
