The Toyota Camry has a longstanding reputation as the go-to midsize sedan. Despite ongoing discussions about the decline of sedans, Toyota challenges this notion by consistently selling approximately 300,000 Camrys annually. These vehicles cater to a diverse range of customers, from families to Uber drivers, offering affordable and exceptionally dependable transportation. And now, there’s a fresh addition to the lineup.
The 2025 Camry introduces the ninth iteration of the beloved sedan. The distinguishing feature is its exclusive availability as a hybrid. Buyers have the flexibility to choose between front-wheel or all-wheel drive setups and can opt for LE, SE, XLE, and XSE trims.
Under the hood, the hybrid powertrain marries a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors. The front-wheel-drive version is equipped with two electric motors, delivering a combined output of 225 horsepower. Opting for the all-wheel-drive variant adds a third motor-generator to the rear axle, elevating the total power to 232 hp.
Both powertrains employ a digitally controlled continuously variable transmission (dCVT). The hybrid setup utilizes a lithium-ion battery, but Toyota refrains from revealing its capacity until the launch of the upcoming Camry draws near.
Indications suggest the demise of the V6 engine in the Camry. A spokesperson conveyed, “[This] is merely a facet of transitioning to an entirely hybrid lineup,” informing Motor1 that the “novel system will deliver ample power and undergoes retuning for a performance-oriented driving experience.”
Nevertheless, this ninth-gen Camry represents a substantial update rather than an entirely new vehicle. The 2025 iteration sits on the same TNGA-K platform that underpinned its eighth-gen predecessor. Nonetheless, there’s a revamped suspension featuring new shocks and adjusted tuning. The manufacturer promotes this configuration as providing “heightened responsiveness and nimble handling.”
The 2025 Camry exhibits a resemblance to the eighth-generation variant, featuring a big lower front grille and slender headlights. The latest iteration incorporates standard headlamps, running lights, and taillights powered by LED technology. New paint choices include Ocean Gem and Heavy Metal, alongside existing Camry colors like Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic, Underground, Midnight Black Metallic, Supersonic Red, and Reservoir Blue.
For the XSE edition, a body-colored lower fascia, black trunk trim, and 19-inch wheels enhance its aesthetics. This model offers a Midnight Black Metallic roof option, pairing seamlessly with Ocean Gem, Wind Chill Pearl, Heavy Metal, and Supersonic Red.
The Camry is equipped with a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster paired with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen. In the case of the XLE and XSE, 12.3-inch displays are incorporated for both gauges and multimedia functionalities. The technology encompasses support for wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside the convenience of a wireless charging pad. The higher-grade models additionally provide a heads-up display measuring 10.0 inches. A premium audio experience is offered with an optional nine-speaker JBL stereo system.
Distinct trims present varied upholstery choices. SofTex with white accents characterizes the SE, available in Boulder or Black. The LE showcases fabric featuring an embossed ocean-wave pattern. Leather upholstery in black or bright red is featured in the XSE, while the XLE’s leather comes with Dinamica microfiber trim. For enhanced comfort, the XLE and XSE trims offer optional heated and ventilated seats. These trims also incorporate acoustic laminated glass for the front-side windows, effectively minimizing wind noise within the cabin.
Every 2025 Camry is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 technology package. This includes a system for anticipating collisions with both vehicles and pedestrians, adaptive cruise control, assistance for staying within lanes, recognition of road signs, automatic adjustment of high beams, monitoring for blind spots, and an alert system for cross-traffic from the rear. Additionally, the XLE and XSE models present an available Premium Plus Package, offering features such as assistance in congested traffic, alerts for front cross-traffic, assistance with lane changes, a panoramic view monitor, and automatic braking for both front and rear parking.
No details have surfaced regarding a dynamic TRD edition. When questioned, Toyota clarified that this statement encompassed all editions and engine options for 2025, leaving the possibility open for the model’s potential return.
The Camry remains a significant model for the brand. In the 2022 sales records, the Camry secured the fifth position among the top-selling vehicles in the United States, with 295,201 units delivered. Toyota’s RAV4 claimed the fourth spot with 399,941 units.
The upcoming Camry is set to arrive at dealerships in spring 2024. Although pricing information is not yet disclosed, we anticipate the new model to be generally comparable in cost to the outgoing Camry.
