After a long silence, Saleen has announced its electric supercar with a promise to bring more visionary products. Recalling the news of Saleen S1, introduced at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, it was a two-seater sports car with the engine placed in the middle. The company has released an official video of the S1 now, showing its intent of imminent production.
What we know from the first unveiling, the S features a turbocharged inline-four 2.5-litre mill hand-built by the company offering 450 horsepower (336 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (474 Newton-meters) of torque. Saleen said it can hit 96.5 km/h (60 mph) from a standstill position in 3.5 seconds and a quarter-mile in 11.3 seconds before reaching its top seed of 290 km/h (180 mph).
The electric supercar’s engine mates to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a dual-clutch, automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Saleen initially planned to create 2,000 S1 cars per year for the U.S. and Europe, as well as many more for China.
For those who don’t know about Saleen, it is owned by the Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technologies Group (JSAT), a Chinese firm. The company will soon start to accept funding from third parties starting at $500 minimum and going upwards of $5,000.
