According to a report from Best CarWeb.jp, the next-generation Mazda CX-5 will be built on a new rear-wheel-drive platform and get new six-cylinder powerplants. Moving upmarket, the new CX-5 will compete against the Mercedes GLC and BMW X5.
We got to know recently that the automaker is developing new inline-six engines and those could be 3.0L and 3.3L mills.
In the summer, we also heard that Mazda will ditch the CX-5 in favor of the CX-50. However, BestCarWeb.jp disagrees with that. They say that the CX-50 will be a coupe-styled variant based on the CX-5. The CX-50 could sit above the CX-5 and below the CX-9.
The rumors are also rife that Mazda may not introduce any new model in the next two years leaving them working on exciting new products.
