Though the Nissan GT-R may have a few years under its belt, it’s not yet ready to retire. The iconic sports car debuted a refreshed model at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon, boasting updates to its grille, suspension and the introduction of two new special edition trims.
Upon first glance, the changes may be difficult to spot, but a closer inspection reveals a redesigned grille and fascia, bringing a more symmetrical and streamlined look to the GT-R’s front end. Nissan also claims that its aerodynamic performance has been improved. Underneath the hood, the platform has been refined for a smoother ride with reduced noise and vibration.
Don’t let the comfort upgrades fool you; the GT-R’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine is still a powerhouse, producing 562 horsepower across the lineup, except for the Nismo, which keeps pumping out a whopping 591 hp.
The Nismo Special edition is one of the two new trims joining the GT-R family in Japan. It boasts further aerodynamic enhancements for optimal performance, and its suspension has been specially tuned for maximum performance. The front axle is fitted with a mechanical limited-slip differential for better traction, and it features a carbon Nismo hood, new Recaro carbon black seats, and weight-stable engine components for more improvements. According to Nissan, the Nismo Special edition is the best-performing GT-R.
The T-spec may be the perfect fit for those looking for a GT-R with a bit more balance. The second new trim for 2024 sits above the Premium and boasts the same 562-hp version of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6. Nissan engineers have tuned the suspension for stability between coziness and performance, and it comes equipped with carbon disc brakes.
The updated 2024 GT-R will be available in Japan this spring, with the Nismo-tuned models landing in the summer. The GT-R sale was stopped in Europe last year due to emissions rules, and we do not know if the changes will make their way to the US market.
