2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Gets A New Design And Powertrains

The British automaker Land Rover has introduced the 2023 Range Rover Sport boasting a new design inside and out, and a PHEV variant along with a First Edition model using a powerful twin-turbo V8.  

Exterior Design

If the design looks familiar, it is because the Sport is inspired by the regular Range Rover, featuring similar flush door handles and other design cues. However, the Sport has its own front and rear styling elements and new daytime running lights that are one of the thinnest ever installed on its vehicles.

Powertrains

What makes the 2023 Land Rover Sport versatile is the choice of powertrains. We have two mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engines (both petrol and diesel). In the base P360 SE, the Sport generates 355 horsepower (264 kilowatts) and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton-meters) of torque. However, the same engine creates an increased output of 395 hp (294 kW) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) in the P400 SE Dynamic.

A step above these two models is the plug-in hybrid P440e Autobiography featuring the turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine churning out 434 hp (323 kW) and 619 lb-ft (839 Nm) of torque. The automaker says it delivers 48 miles of all-electric range courtesy of a 105-kilowatt electric motor and 38.2-kilowatt-hour battery. The Range Rover Sport PHEV can accelerate to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds.

Those seeking an even livelier performance would be happy with the P530 First Edition. The flagship model gets a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 yielding 523 hp (390 KW) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque, enabling it to complete a 0 to 60 mph run in 4.3 seconds with Dynamic Launch.  

All powerplants get assistance from an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. Land Rover plans to launch the all-electric Sport in 2024.

Technology

The interior gets a new Pivi Pro infotainment system operatable through a floating 13.1-inch curved touchscreen along with a 13.7-inch Interactive Driver Display. The infotainment system supports Amazon Alexa for hands-free operations and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Besides, the new Range Rover Sport is capable of getting over-the-air updates to modify electronic modules’ settings. Other prominent interior amenities include Meridian Signature Sound System with 29 speakers and a dedicated 15W Wireless Device Charger.

Safety

The Land Rover ensures the safety of the luxury Sport through Emergency Braking, 3D Surround Camera, comprising front and rear parking sensors, Wade Sensing, ClearSight Ground View, and Manoeuvring Lights – Cruise Control, Driver Condition Monitor, Lane Keep Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition.  

First Edition Model

Please note that the Range Rover First Edition will be accessible only in the first year of production, featuring the Stormer Handling Package. It arms the SUV with Land Rover’s Dynamic Response Pro, all-wheel steering, and the electronic active differential.

Price and Availability

The company will develop the 2023 Range Rover Sport at its factory in Solihull, UK. The order books are open around the world, but the on-sale date is still not confirmed.
