The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) score to the 2023 Honda Accord. This midsize car exhibited outstanding performance in six out of seven evaluated classifications, comprising the brand-new pedestrian-to-vehicle front crash prevention evaluation at night.

In order to qualify for the 2023 TSP+ award, a vehicle is required to obtain “Good” grades in all collision worthiness evaluations, such as the driver-side small overlap front, occupant-side small overlap front, altered side test, and genuine medium overlap front tests. Additionally, receiving an “Advanced” or “Superior” score in pedestrian examinations, performed both morning and night, is necessary.

Notably, the revamped Honda Sedan secured a satisfactory rating in the IIHS’s modernized side examination, wherein a heavier object struck the test car at a swifter pace. Furthermore, all Accord trims presently feature first-class LED projector headlights – an additional prerequisite to gain ultimate recognition.

The 2023 Honda Accord’s typical mechanism for evading frontal collisions earned a top-notch score from the IIHS in the daylight test for evading pedestrians, while the test’s nighttime version received an advanced rating. These factors augmented the Accord’s top-tier status in safeguarding pedestrians, rendering it among the rare cars that accomplished this feat.

The collection of safety and driver-support technologies provided by Honda Sensing is arguably the essential component of the Accord. This suite of safety features comes standard on all models provided by the automaker and involves the Lane Maintenance Assistance System (LMAS), Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC), Cautionary Alert for Frontal Collisions, Prevention of Road Departures (PRD), and Braking System for Collision Mitigation (BSCM) with Pedestrian Recognition.

Additional Honda variations which were given the TSP+ classification for 2023 encompass the CR-V, HR-V, and Odyssey. In contrast, a Top Safety Pick score was awarded to the Civic Hatchback and Sedan, excluding the recent Civic Type R. As of now, the IIHS has not appraised the 2023 Honda Pilot.
