Volvo introduced the updated variants of its PHEVs some months back and it seems the upgrades would be available for the U.S. and other markets soon. The S60, V60, S90, XC60, and XC90 PHEV vehicles, which Volvo distinguishes with the name ‘Recharge’, will receive a more robust electric motor and a bigger battery.
The new powertrain will take power output to 455 hp and improve electric driving range by 21 to 26 km (13 to 16 miles) as per the vehicle. However, official EPA ratings aren’t out yet.
The amalgamation of a turbocharged and supercharged turbo 2.0-litre engine and an electric motor was earlier good for 400 horsepower (or 415 hp in the V60 Polestar Engineered). The more robust electric motor and the battery capacity of 18.8 kWh (previously 11.6 kWh) now offer an improved range of 61 km (38 miles) for the V60 and 51 km (32 miles) for the XC60 and XC90.
EPA didn’t reveal the range for these vehicles but all the 2022 Volvo Extended Range vehicles will be able to benefit from the federal tax credit.
The “Extended Range” terminology will distinguish them to have the new powertrain. However, we believe these updated models will replace the present hybrids. We will know more about these updates in the near future.
