Hyundai is strengthening its high-performance N subbrand by adding another N model. Uniting the Veloster N hatchback and Kona N crossover, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N is the brand’s first complete N sedan model. It was teased and debuted for a worldwide audience in July, and now Hyundai announced its arrival in the U.S.
Under the hood of the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, which also pumps energy in the other N models. Under standard conditions, the unit is good for 276 horsepower between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm and 289 pound-feet of torque between 2,100 and 4,700 rpm.
Buyers can opt for either a six-speed manual or eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The overboost system (simply comes with DCT) gives an extra 10 hp for 20 seconds. The driver can activate it through a button on the steering wheel.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N also features a dual-clutch with a launch control system. The automaker says the N sedan can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 155 mph. Similar to other N vehicles, it comes with a variable exhaust system, but there is an addition for the Elantra N. It has a virtual engine sound with three variable settings.
Hyundai has equipped the sedan with an electronically controlled limited-slip differential and an independent rear suspension similar to what we find in the N-Line model (entry-level Elantra trims use a torsion beam at the back).
The N sedan employs an integrated drive axle as well. It is harder and lighter than a usual drive axle. The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N sports 19-inch wheels with 245/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and 14.2-inch rotors.
The digital gauge cluster shows oil and coolant temperatures, torque, and boost pressure. Furthermore, similar to what we find in the Kona N, the performance sedan boasts an N mode lap timer incorporated into the infotainment that the driver can connect to a mobile app, as well. Customers can also opt for N bucket seats that come with a lit-up N emblem in the headrest.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N should hit the US and UAE roads by the fall of 2021 or early 2022. The official pricing details aren’t out yet, but we expect it to cost at least around $33,000 with the six-speed manual transmission or $34,500 with the dual-clutch gearbox.
